Retail | Metrc Error Notifications

There are a few system errors that can occur from Metrc from time to time. Please review this article from the links below to understand what these different error codes mean, what causes them, and how to resolve them.

  1. 401 Error: API Key is not authenticated

  2. 500 Error: General Metrc error

  3. 503 Error: Metrics API is down

  • 401 Error: API Key is not authenticated

CAUSE: This error is likely due to a user's permissions being changed within Metrc.

RESOLUTION: A new Metrc API Key will need to be generated and added to your BLAZE account.

Step 1: Generate a new API key in Metrc

  1. Log in to Metrc.

  2. Click the downward arrow near your name and select API.

  3. Click Generate.

  4. Copy the new API Key.

Step 2: Update the API key in BLAZE

  1. Log in to BLAZE.

  2. Navigate to Global Settings > Integration Settings > Metrc.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. Delete the old API key and paste the new API key.

  5. Click the magnifying glass icon to the right.

  6. Ensure the appropriate Metrc Facility is selected (this corresponds to your Metrc License).

  7. Click Save.

  • 500 Error: General Metrc error

CAUSE: Metrc has indicated that when a server response of "500: An error has occurred" is returned, the initial action (POST) is actually successful despite the error message. If you receive a second error upon retrying, it is because the first attempt successfully used the tag, making it unavailable for the second attempt.

RESOLUTION: Metrc is actively working towards resolving these intermittent 500 errors to prevent further duplication issues.

If a successful POST created a duplicate in your system, the licensee must contact Metrc support directly for assistance in correcting inventory issues. You can reach them at:

    • Email: support@metrc.com

    • Phone: 1-877-566-6506

  • 503 Error: Metrics API is down

CAUSE: This error occurs when Metrc's API servers are down.

NOTE: This is different from Metrc's main servers being down. You will likely still be able to log in and use Metrc's web platform directly.

RESOLUTION: You will need to wait for Metrc's API servers to stabilize before the integration functions normally again. If you need to intake inventory immediately, you must bypass the integration temporarily by either using the BLAZE PO system or adding the batches manually.
