Retail | Product Catalog: Managing Company Categories
Company categories standardize your category tree across every store in your business, ensuring product classifications remain consistent everywhere. The Categories page displays your full category tree along with order, images, category names, sold-as units, cannabis classifications, and active statuses.
Prerequisites
- Access to the BLAZE Web Portal.
- Appropriate permissions to manage company-level Product Catalog settings.
How to Create a Category
- Navigate to Categories in the main menu and click New Category.
- On the Category Profile tab of the New Company Category form, complete the following fields:
- Category Name: Enter a unique name (Required — category names must be unique within your company).
- Parent Category: Leave as Top-level (no parent), or select an existing category to make this a subcategory (Note: Subcategories can only be one level deep).
- Sold as: Select Pre-packaged (Units) or Deli style (Grams) (Required — this setting determines whether products use standard unit pricing or by-gram weight pricing).
- Cannabis type: Select the default classification (Products will inherit this setting unless overridden individually).
- Status: Set to Active or Inactive.
- Low Inventory Threshold: (Optional) Enter a stock level threshold to trigger low-inventory alerts.
- Click the Image tab to upload a category image.
- Click the Locations tab to assign the category to specific shops.
- Click Create Category.

How to Organize the Category Tree
- Reorder Manually: Click and drag rows using the Drag to reorder handle.
NOTE: To drag and reorder, the category list must be sorted by the Order column.
-
Alphabetize Automatically: Click Sort A → Z to renumber all categories in alphabetical order.
WARNING: Clicking Sort A → Z will permanently overwrite any existing custom ordering.
-
Manage Subcategories: Expand a parent category row to view its subcategories. Drag a subcategory to a different parent to reassign it, or drag it to Drop here to make this a top-level category (no parent) to promote it.
NOTE: A category that already contains subcategories cannot be converted into a subcategory itself.
How to Delete a Category (with Product Migration)
To ensure products are never orphaned, deleting a category with active products requires migrating those products to a new category destination.
- Locate the category on the Categories page and select Delete.
- In the migration dialog, click the Move products to dropdown and select a destination category.
NOTE: If the category has no active products, you may leave this field empty.
3. Click Continue.
4. In the Migrate and delete? confirmation dialog, review your changes and click Confirm.
WARNING: All products in this category will be migrated to the selected destination category. This action cannot be undone via the user interface.
